It may be causing frustration, but ongoing contradictions in the coalition government are unlikely to be damaging.
Jacinda Ardern and deputy Winston Peters have publicly disagreed about the speed of the exit out of alert level 2.
Political Editor Barry Soper told Mike Hosking it's pure electioneering from Peters, not an intended punch at Ardern.
"Peters is appealing to the public, but also annoying the coalition by saying we need to move to level one now.
"They want to portray it as a well ordered move down to level one, but Winston is saying do it and do it quickly."
