Boxing New Zealand's hoping the sport's latest death is a wake up call to the country's governing bodies.
After the death of amateur boxer Kain Parsons it's ceasing all involvement in charity boxing meaning.
It says it's had grave concerns over the safety of participants for some time.
President Keith Walker says he's unsure why action wasn't taken sooner.
"We haven't had any incidents under our umbrella, so I'm not too sure why those other bodies are not tightened up or seeing the issues that need to be addressed."
Walker says a review is needed to prevent future tragedies.
"There are some issues that are created in these events that may slip under our guard, and we need to be ensuring that this sport is safe guarded.'
