Around 20 people are each in a serious condition at Christchurch Hospital following yesterday's terror attacks.
A gunman opened fire at two mosques in the city, killing 49 people.
Canterbury District Health Board head David Meates told Mike Hosking 90 people turned up with gunshot wounds at Christchurch Hospital and two community locations yesterday.
"We have got 12 still in ICU, a further seven in our special surgical care area [and] one in an orthopaedic trauma unit."
Meates said the remaining patients are in a range of different units and wards in Christchurch Hospital.
He said it's unclear whether there will be further deaths but says there are some very complex cases.
