Calls for landlords to receive compensation as well as state tenants who were evicted over meth contamination concerns.

The Government is compensating around 800 state tenant who were evicted after meth contamination was found in their houses.

Each tenant will receive around $2000.

The Property Investors Federation says landlords have been equally aggrieved and deserve to be compensated as well.

Andrew King from the Property Investors Federation told Mike Hosking landlords spent a lot of money cleaning meth-contaminated houses.

"Surely if there's compensation due it's due to the people who spent tens of thousands of dollars cleaning their rental houses unnecessarily, in order to rent it out to other tenants."

He says landlords faced a $4000 fine if they didn't clean the houses.

"The Government have said that we weren't required to follow those rules but I would say we were. We had the Tenancy Tribunal who were saying that if you allowed a tenant into your property and there was more than 0.5 micrograms of meth then you could have a $4000 fine."

King says it's hard to tell how many landlords have been affected by this.

"There's not a lot of data on this but we do know a lot of our members have been affected."

"One of them had spent over $100,000 on two properties that were affected so you know this isn't small change this is life-changing."
