KiwiBuild is being seen as an opportunity to build homes that are of better quality and more economical in the long-run.

A new report shows homeowners could miss out on nearly $700 million in power and water savings, if the Government sees houses built to the minimum legal standard.

Green Building Council CEO, Andrew Eagles, told Mike Hosking we can and should deliver healthier, warmer homes that save on energy bills.

"So, international feedback is that our building code should be reviewed and improved. OECD and international energy agencies have been saying that for some time."

Eagles says we could be doing that across KiwiBuild.
