A woman seeking help for postnatal depression doesn't want other mums to experience what she has.

Amy Payne was diagnosed with it more than seven months ago after a traumatic ordeal when giving birth and still hasn't seen a counsellor.

She's one of 11,000 experiencing post natal depression and anxiety every year, but three quarters are delayed from getting treatment.

Payne told Larry Williams there needs to be a national service so that no other women will have to suffer what she has.

"I don't want another mum waiting as long as I have because sometimes, you know, that wait could be too long for them."

Payne says there needs to be more funding and shorter wait times to see a counsellor.

"There needs to be shorter waiting time to see counsellors or government funding to be extended. We live in a society that wants you to seek help for mental health and when you ask for it, how long do you have to wait."
