Research finds dads are struggling with work-life balance

New Australian research suggests dads are more involved parents nowadays, but are struggling with a work-life balance.

The study out of Queensland University finds that despite spending more time with the kids, the pressure to be the breadwinner isn't easing.

It can lead to mental health issues and negatively affect the wellbeing of children.

Kidz Need Dadz field worker Allan Harvey says fathers playing more of a parental role is a good thing.

"The research does show that dads that are working a lot are also caring a lot as well, so dad's as a role as hero and nurturer in the family is extremely important."

He says that the key to success is finding a good balance between nurturer and working hard to set a good example.

"One of the things that we do is we offer some parenting courses. It's important that dads are improved to give it a go."
