It'll be an expensive trip over the Tasman for some.

Huge interest in the first quarantine-free flights to Sydney.

The first quarantine-free flights from Auckland to Sydney are more than double their usual price and travellers will have to foot the three-thousand-200-dollar quarantine fee when they return home.

From tomorrow, Kiwis can go to New South Wales and Northern Territory without having to quarantine there for 14 days.

Flight Centre's Victoria Courtney told Heather du Plessis-Allan there's huge demand with Air New Zealand's first flight tomorrow morning nearly full.

Jetstar and Qantas services are joining Air New Zealand and Qatar, all up they are putting around 3,700 seats up for sale each week.

Courtney says most travels are due to events such as weddings and family emergencies and less for leisure at this point as returning Kiwis still have to quarantine.

She says she is hopeful once more flights are present and restrictions are eased, the expensive prices will drop.
