Big corporates are still upbeat, even after four weeks in lockdown.

A new survey by business advisory service Ernst and Young shows most NZX companies are treating Covid-19 as a short-term disruption - not a long one.

Advisory services partner Una Diver told Heather du Plessis-Allan many of their clients have taken a people-focused approach - which they say is the key to their success.

"They were really trying hard to hold onto their people and try to protect their workforce.

"So what's that meant is retaining salaries and actually in some cases enhancing leave and other benefits."

She says that most companies are expecting to move on from hiring freezes soon.

"93 per cent of them said they only expected that to remain in place for either the duration of the lockdown or for a maximum of four months."
