There are calls for the Government to honour the Treaty of Waitangi in cannabis law reforms.
Health organisations Hapai Te Hauora, Drug Foundation, and Te Rau Ora have today demanded Māori rights and interests be put at the centre of legislation changes.
It's a plea to improve Māori outcomes if cannabis is legalised after next year's referendum.
Drug Foundation Chair Tuari Potiki says they want cannabis regulations to be designed under a Treaty framework.
That includes working with the Crown to establish an agency tasked with leading reforms on behalf of Māori.
