Kiwis around the country will be able to witness rugby-great Sir Brian Lochore's final farewell.

TVNZ will be broadcasting Sir Brian's funeral around the country as it happens, with thousands expected to be there in person. 

Wairarapa Union chief executive Tony Hargood told Heather du Plessis Allan Lachore was very much part of the nation.

"So many different involvements in so many different areas, and a lot of people want to come and pay respect to him and spend some time listening to the stories we'll hear on Thursday."

The service is being held at his home ground, Masterton's Memorial Park, at 1pm on Thursday.
