A medical ethicist is slamming a tactic used to hide medication in rest home residents' food.
Research shows the method is common among staff, who say it's only done in the best interest of residents who deny it.
But Auckland University's Tim Dare told Heather du Plessis-Allan it's a worrying practice.
"Under law in New Zealand, every patient has a right to refuse medication, so we shouldn't even be having this discussion unless it's clear the resident isn't capable of giving consent."
