Sports inclusion researcher Eric Denison joins Heather du Plessis-Allan to talk about the ingrained 'gay slurs' in male sports.
The Crusaders named both Richie Mo'unga and George Bridge in his side to face the Blues his Saturday, despite both being at accused of two separate off-field incidents in South Africa, with one centering on homophobic behaviour.
Researchers in Australia have found that gay slur culture runs deeply in the rugby environment, with calls for the All Blacks to get involved in campaigns against it.
Denison says people have never been told not to stop such behaviour.
"Historically male sport was more of a homophobic environment, we know that for sure and homophobic language runs with homophobic attitudes.
The homophobic attitudes aren't there anymore, but the homophobic language is still there and it's just seen as normal banter."
