There is set to be a vaccine free for all at some point, but the Government has put their foot forward to help research locally.

The Government has allocated $37 million for local development of a Covid-19 vaccine to join the international efforts.

It has also created a vaccine strategy and a taskforce to overseas its implementation.

But former National Party staffer Neil Miller told Andrew Dickens he is not buying the hype attached to the sum of money.

"America has probably spent 37 million dollars on Covid vaccine research in the time that I've been talking, so it's not a lot of money globally."

Meanwhile, thousands of work visa holders are stuck overseas and pleading with the Government to come up with a solution.

Since the borders shut only New Zealand citizens and residents are allowed to come back into the country, while the rest can apply for an exemption.

Commentator Josie Pagani says these are people who have already passed the test, and should be let back.

"These are not just people coming in with a backpack on a holiday visa or trying to get in the backdoor, they've already gone through all the hurdles."
