The Huddle: Should PM have shamed security guard over lying?

The MIQ security guard at the centre of our latest border outbreak avoided two appointments for Covid vaccination and lied about being tested.

The guard hadn't been tested since November last year and the authorities are now looking at whether he should face a penalty.

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern told media he wasn't employed directly by the Government.

"They were employed by First Security. Their employer is responsible for making sure they are fulfilling the regulations that they are getting tested.

"We've been advised that, in this case, the individual was lying to his employer."

Her comments have prompted some backlash, with some concern that she is "punching down" by publicly shaming him.

It is also drawing comparisons to comments made during the February lockdown, where Ardern said a KFC worker who later tested positive for Covid-19 would have been told to self-isolate.

Meanwhile, Nike is now reselling returned sneakers at a discount in select stores in an effort to reduce waste.

Nike has announced an initiative where it accepts returned shoes that are gently worn or have a manufacturing flaw and cleans and sanitises them. The refurbished shoes are then resold in select stores at a reduced price.

The company said it's currently selling the returned shoes in eight Nike stores in the United States, with plans to expand to 15 locations by the end of April and several more by the end of the year.

Sustainability is a growing focus in the world of sportswear and the broader fashion industry, which is one of the biggest polluters on the planet.
