The Huddle: All Blacks backlash and Stuart Nash's opening gambit as Tourism Minister

All Blacks captain Sam Cane has used a verbal fend on fans criticising his leadership in the back-to-back losses to Argentina and Australia.

Following the All Blacks' historic loss to Argentina, Cane was quick to defend his team and head coach Ian Foster, and described the brutal nature of some of the All Blacks' passionate supporters.

"You've just got to remind yourself hey, they may like to think they know a lot about the game of rugby, in reality they don't really," Cane said on Sky Sport's The Breakdown. The comments led to boundless backlash on social media from fans who indeed, do not believe they're not well-versed in the 15-man code."

Meanwhile, Stuart Nash has marked his arrival as Tourism Minister with eye-brow raising comments about the industry.

Nash has hit out at freedom campers and backpackers as he urges the industry to focus on wealthier tourists. He told RNZ that too often ratepayers and taxpayers had picked up the bill of the impact of tourism on infrastructure and the environment.

He said the full cost of tourism needs to be priced into the visitor experience.

"What we're looking at at the moment is a unique opportunity for a re-set.

"We haven't got tourists here at the moment, so we have an opportunity to re-define our global value proposition and market to those who add significant value to our country.

He was not saying backpackers should stay away, but there was no point in directing the marketing effort towards them, he said.
