The country will remain at the current lockdown levels for another 12 days.

Auckland will stay in Alert Level Three, and the rest of the country in Level Two, until 11.59pm on Wednesday August 26.

Dr Ashley Bloomfield says 14 days is the incubation period of the virus, so the lockdown gives them sufficient time to absolutely determine the extent of the outbreak.

The settings will be reviewed on Friday 21st August.

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern says they are continuing to pursue the theories to find the source of the new cluster, but we may never know.

She says that's been the case on many occasions overseas, and we've had those circumstances here too.

Listen to the audio above as Newstalk ZB Political editor Barry Soper and Matthew Tukaki from the New Zealand Maori Council join The Huddle to discuss whether the lockdown extension was the right call.
