The Green party co-leader is covering for one of his MPs - after a wealth tax blunder.
One of the Green's election policies includes a plan to make Kiwis with a net worth greater than one million dollars, pay one percent of their wealth to the Government - as a tax.
At yesterday's MYOB small business panel discussion, Green MP Julie Anne Genter told the group the wealth tax policy was a bottom line condition.
But today, James Shaw says Genter's comment was said in the heat of the moment.
He says it's been a long election campaign, people are getting tired, and she was pressed on the point.

SANZAAR has released the tournament schedule, which sees the final Bledisloe on December 12th, not the 5th as NZR wanted.
It's thought commercial issues and player welfare worries from the other countries are preventing a tighter competition.
