The Huddle: Covid in Orewa, Cook Islands and Six60 scratchie backlash

Further urgent testing is underway tonight, on two potential new cases of Covid-19 in Auckland.

They were among the hundreds who were at an Auckland MIQ facility at the same time as the confirmed Northland case -- and both have tested positive for the virus.

It's unknown whether they're recent or historic infections.

The pair are asymptomatic and have already completed their managed isolation where they returned two negative tests.

As a precaution, Public Health staff are working to identify close and casual contacts if contact tracing is required.

The revelations follow claims from MP Hone Harawira this afternoon to Newstalk ZB's Heather du-Plessis Allan that there are two more Covid-19 cases in Orewa - rather than from the Ministry.

Meanwhile, there is a suggestion New Zealand might end up paying to keep Cook Islands businesses open.

Prime Minister Mark Brown says they're preparing a new budget for July.

He told Heather du Plessis-Allan he sees New Zealand as the country's main partner.

He says it's inevitable they'll need to turn to additional debt funding or grant funding from donors.
