The Huddle: Should a Covid-19 vaccine be compulsory to take?

The COVID-19 Response Minister's clarified why our vaccine roll out's not as speedy as the UK's.

The Pfizer vaccine's been approved there from next week, as they battle a deadly second wave.

Chris Hipkins says we're working hard on fast approvals.

He says some countries doing emergency approvals are not waiting until the end of clinical trials - because they're dealing with hundreds and thousands of deaths each day.

Hipkins says we might not have complete control of when the vaccines arrive, but we won't give up vaccines because other countries have higher death rates.

Speaking with on The Huddle with Heather du Plessis-Allan, Maxim Institute Executive Director Tim Wilson says when it does eventually become available, he doesn't want to see it made compulsory for everyone to take.

"I don't think I will get it. I don't believe in government's making things like this compulsory."

Communication strategist Trish Sherson agrees.

"There is no vaccine, no matter how critical, which has been mandated for everyone to take. I can't see it happening."
