A congestion charge could be the answer to combatting Wellington's high rates.

Today in a select committee Transport Minister Michael Wood wouldn't rule out the charge, saying the Climate Change Commission recommending it's consideration, is notable.

Wellington Mayor Andy Foster told Heather du Plessis-Allan with Wellingtonians already feeling the pressure of rates, it would be a great option.

He says it's either rates or some form of other charges so it's better the Transport Ministry pay rather than the property sector.

Meanwhile, Harry and Meghan are in another public spat with the media and Buckingham Palace.

A BBC report, which cited an unnamed Buckingham Palace source, stated that the couple never checked whether they could use the moniker before naming their second child, who was born on Friday in California.

But a spokesperson for the Duke of Sussex told CNN that Harry spoke with the Queen before the announcement, and said she was supportive of the decision.
