The Huddle: Cancel culture and Climate Change Commission recommendations

The time is now.

That’s the Climate Change Commission’s message to the Government – as it unveils key advice for an emissions blitz.

Its final recommendations – released after thousands of public submissions – reiterate the need to shift towards electric vehicles, move away from fossil fuels, and change-up farm practices.

Revised modelling shows New Zealand’s emissions are higher than first thought - and we have a tougher road to meet our 2050 targets.

That’s led to a slight increase in the levels of our emissions budgets.

There’s also a warning delays in action could cost us more than two percent of GDP by the same year.

Meanwhile, former US President Barack Obama has criticised cancel culture.

Speaking to CNN this week he says his colleagues in the Democratic party should avoid it if they don't want to alienate voters.
