Air New Zealand has copped its fair share of strife throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, now its getting it from customers.

Consumer NZ says customers are being "short-changed" by the national carrier's preference to provide credits rather than to return money.

A survey by the watchdog found 80 per cent of passengers on cancelled Air NZ flights have been left stuck with credits - allowing the airline to sit on "millions of dollars of customers' money".

Road Transport Forum chief executive Nick Leggett told Andrew Dickens it comes down to the liquidity of Air New Zealand.,

"Not only are they not particularly liquid they also got significantly reduce flight schedules.

"The opportunity for people to take up their credit is limited, and of course we're in tight economic times."

Meanwhile, Winston Peters believes New Zealand has been in lockdown for too long and a move to level one makes sense.

Peters says New Zealand's enemy is no longer the virus, rather health and economic impacts.

Tim Wilson says Peters is beginning to make sense.

"1000 jobs a day, every day we delay is a thousand jobs."
