Gun owners who disagree with the Government's compensation for their firearm will have the chance to challenge it.
Details about the Government's gun buy-back scheme today revealed compensation will be based on the firearm's make and model, condition and base price.
Police minister Stuart Nash told Heather du Plussis-Allan there is the ability for the gun owner to query the price.
He says they can pay $120 plus GST and get an independent valuation, if they still don't agree they can go to the district court.
Nash says the penalty for possessing a prohibited a firearm after the six month amnesty is five years jail.
