A severely ill covid patient is being transported to New Zealand for hospital treatment after all.

The ministry made a u-turn this morning, allowing the UN staffer to be evacuated here after declining to take them just two days ago.

Former Prime Minister Helen Clark said Middlemore hospital had stepped up to respond to the UN request.

The Prime Minister, Health Minister, Covid Minister and the Ministry of Health declined to speak about this with Newstalk ZB.

Salaried Medical Specialists association executive director Sarah Dalton told Heather du Plessis-Allan that our hospitals ICUs aren’t well-resourced, but that we have obligations as a UN citizen to do right by those UN staffers.
