A reminder from doctors on just what symptoms you should come forward with – if you’re concerned you’ve got coronavirus.

Covid-19 testing's being ramped up, with the case definition widened to include those with COVID-19 respiratory symptoms, regardless of travel history or contact with a confirmed case.

Royal New Zealand College of GPs Doctor Samantha Murton told Heather du Plessis Allan some patients will still be keen to be tested but won’t fit Covid-19 symptoms.

“Any hint of fever and a cough is one of the main symptoms, and a sore throat and runny noses are really secondary and tertiary symptoms. So the fever and the cough are the main symptoms we worry about, and absolutely you should be tested if that’s the case.”

She says they have been waiting for the case definition to be widened for a few days now and are pleased to see the move. 

Dr Murton says they were frustrated that people they had recommended to be tested were turned down because of the case definition.
