Reassurances New Zealand is ready to make the switch to an electric car fleet.
The Climate Change Commission's recommended the Government ban most non-electric car imports by 2035.
It's part of a final report which lays down a roadmap on how New Zealand will become carbon neutral by 2050.
According to Vector, each electric car battery can add up to 20 houses worth of demand to the grid.
Commission Chair Rod Carr told Heather du Plessis-Allan we need to work on the logistics as we go.
"Transpower are pretty confident and generators are pretty confident that with a well-signalled transition they can build both the generation capacity and also the transmission."
