There are hopes that swearing-in on Te Tiriti o Waitangi can be an option for MPs in the future.
New Green MP Ricardo Menendez March has come under fire on social media, after saying on Twitter he wasn't looking forward to swearing his allegiance to the Queen.
He told Heather du Plessis-Allan there needs to be a conversation about constitutional transformation.
He's more interested in upholding the treaty, as he says the Queen doesn't reflect the agreement laid out in the treaty.

He says systemic racism and xenophobia are present in most of his critics.
“We have to accept that xenophobia and racism still plays a part into political lives and in general society… that’s something I definitely been on the receiving end.”
March says he wants conversations to lead towards swearing-in on Te Tiriti o Waitangi over the Crown, as the Crown has no validity without the Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
