Poorer people end up spending more on pokie machines than the wealthy do.
Analysis company Dot Loves Data says the poorest 10 percent spend almost three times as much on gambling machines as the richest 10 percent.
Gambling Machine Association chair, Peter Dengate-Thrush, told Heather du Plessis-Allan he doesn't know why licenses are predominantly taken out in low-decile areas.
But, he says gambling is often an entertainment for poorer people.
