Paul Goldsmith: National trending in the right direction

National MP Paul Goldsmith says the party's trending in the right direction.

In the latest One News Colmar Brunton poll, National has picked up two points to put it on 33 percent.

Labour has a 14 point lead on 47.

Goldsmith says party leader Judith Collins is finding her feet and he thinks the party will continue to increase its support.

"We've got a hard two and a half weeks of campaigning to get New Zealanders thinking about the choices that they've got, and they have a very clear choice now."

Meanwhile, The New Zealand Herald's annual Mood of the Boardroom survey has heard the opinions and concerns of 165 CEOs and company directors.

Executive editor Fran O'Sullivan says perhaps not surprisingly from a business audience, the preference is for National.

But there are question marks over whether they'll be in a position to implement anything - and over Paul Goldsmith's mucking up of the numbers.

Grant Robertson was rated at 4.18 out of 5 - the highest for any Cabinet Minister in 19 years of the survey.

Goldsmith says that might be because he has spent a lot of money this year.

"The point we will be making over the next couple of weeks is, before Covid, he had inherited a huge budget surplus and blew the lot."
