A new mural with a twist is on display in central Auckland.
"Te Karanga" was designed by Kiwi artists Janine and Charles Williams and is made with photocatalytic paint that absorbs pollutants from the air the same way a plant would.
They partnered with the global Converse All Stars community of creatives to paint murals in cities using Graphenstone paint.
Graphenstone’s photocatalytic paint uses sunlight to reduce noxious air pollutants and purifies the surrounding air.
Globally, Converse has activated these sustainable murals from Singapore to Sao Paolo and planted the equivalent of 9,036 trees
Graphenstone’s global sales manager Patricio Flores says the paint has the ability to absorb CO2 and starts working actively from the drying process.
“It improves the Earth quality in the environment where this product is applied.”
The mural is said to be equivalent to planting 182 trees.
