Support for schools being able to call the police if unvaccinated staff turn up next week.

All early learning and school teachers must have had their first jab by Monday.

In a notice in the Ministry of Education gazette yesterday, school leaders have been advised if an unvaccinated staff member turns up from Monday, they'll be committing an offence.

Te Tai Tokerau Principals Association President Pat Newman told Heather du Plessis-Allan it's a good move.

“But I suspect in some schools, you’ll find that those that are doing it for dramatic political reason. In my own school, I haven’t got anyone that fits that bill.”

Newman says it would be a selfish move if unvaxxed staffers showed up next week.

“If they're doing that, then they shouldn't be teaching. I can understand teachers having a belief about not vaccinating, but to deliberately walk onto the grounds on Tuesday if they're not vaccinated, they're doing it for political effect.”
