The ABC is reportedly preparing to launch legal action over an AFP raid on its headquarters.
The public broadcaster was raided last week over 2017 stories about allegations Australian soldiers carried out war crimes in Afghanistan.
It came days after the home of a NewsCorp journalist was also raided over a separate story.
ABC chair Ita Buttrose has told ABC radio that they have consulted lawyers about their options, and are assessing the allegations to see what they can do to defend themselves.
The Federal Government has now said they are considering an inquiry into press freedom, with Finance Minister Matthis Cormann telling media statements will be made later this week in relation to the issue.
