Nigel Yalden: Reduced three week ban for Scott Barrett is fair

All Blacks lock Scott Barrett will miss the next three weeks of rugby for his dangerous tackle on Australian captain Michael Hooper.

The SANZAAR foul play review committee reduced the six week ban to three because of Barrett's guilty plea, previously clean record and for showing remorse.

The ban means Barrett will be available for the All Blacks test against Tonga on September 7th.

Newstalk ZB's rugby editor Nigel Yalden told Heather du Plessis-Allan that Barrett does have a good record and was entitled to a 50 per cent ban.

"Based on that, it's consistent with previous rulings."

Barrett was able to convince that SANZAAR that he was going to play two games in the Mitre 10 Cup, which prevented him from having World Cup games brought into the ban.

Yalden says that it doesn't matter whether he actually was going to or not is irrelevant, it was all about the argument.
