National MP Nick Smith has been the centre of a stoush in the house this afternoon.
National's longest serving MP's been named by the speaker and thrown out of the debating chamber for gross disorderly conduct.
Naming Nick Smith means the MP is suspended from the house for 24 hours.
Smith says Police Minster Stuart Nash misled him by claiming Cabinet had approved a discussion paper last year on drug driving, a move that was influenced by the death of a 23-year-old Nelson man who was killed by a driver high on meth.
Nash denied that was the case.
Smith says the influence behind the verbal altercation was his desire to reduce tragic accidents on the road.
