The CEO of a company that offers literary programs in prisons says Brian Tamaki is handling his request in the wrong fashion.

The controversial Destiny Church leader has threatened to incite prison violence, because his Man Up programme hasn't been put in prisons.

Today, he tweeted accusing MPs of political gang rape.

Corrections Minister Kelvin Davis says he's never received an application for man up to work in prisons.

Mike Williams, CEO of the Howard League for Penal Reform, told Mike Yardley that you have to be careful and respectful if you want to work with Corrections.

“What you’ve got to do is approach the Minister in a private fashion and then approach Corrections. I think going public like has is exactly the wrong method.”

He says that if the plan does work, than Corrections would be right to trial it, but that insulting Ministers won't benefit anyone.

The Howard League had to go through several meetings and trials, which involved inducting volunteers into jail and going through background checks.

"Corrections is very risk averse about who they allow in jail," Williams says.

He says that they have been allowed into a number of jails now after going through that process.

Williams does not believe that religion would be an issue in this case.
