It's hoped simplifying the temporary work visa process will support future workforce needs.

Immigration Minister Iain Lees-Galloway has announced a new employer-led work visa to help fill skill shortages, reduce exploitation, and improve conditions.

He says it will also help businesses more easily employ migrants, while still prioritising Kiwis.

Horticulture New Zealand CEO Mike Chapman told Heather du Plessis-Allan until now, the system's been too complicated.

"The problems been the complication proxy which has delayed things. There's also been a skills list, codes, all sorts of stuff."
