There are concerns for Kiwis who've returned from China and have been forced to self-isolate from the coronavirus.

There are reports of people sleeping in cars, because they can't find anywhere to self-quarantine.

Jianwu Zhang told Radio New Zealand that he spent two nighs in his car when he returned to Auckland last week, as he wanted to avoid contact with his flatmates but struggled to find any alternative accommodation.

National's health spokesperson Michael Woodhouse told Heather du-Plessis Allan it's worrying to see people living in those conditions.

He says most of the people quarantining in cars are part of the Chinese community.

"We've got a very good facility in Whangaparoa that has capacity for greater than the 100 or so Wuhan evacuees, and they are going home tomorrow anyway."
