The Government has announced a boost of $95 million into the arts sector, with $18 million injected into Te Papa Museum to keep it afloat.

It is part of a broader package for the sector, which has been crippled by the Covid crisis.

The $18 million for Te Papa was a substitute for the revenue for the cafe, koha and events at the premises.

Creative New Zealand Chair Michael Moynahan says everyone is delighted, as this "is exactly what the sector needs".

Mr Moynahan says they will be looking to amplify a lot of what they have been doing in the emergency phase.

"We have enacted a range of measures to help support organisations to survive, artists to keep producing work and the big groups to actually underpin some of the losses that they've had as a result of Covid.".
