The new Race Relations Commissioner is rejecting the idea he didn't need to visit Ihumātao because it's not a race issue.
Meng Foon visited the site today and is calling on Jacinda Ardern to do the same.
He told Andrew Dickens he visited the site to learn.
"I just wanna make sure that the conversation is safe, transparent, there's no racism involved, and that is the key offer that we are actually there for."
Fong says he has come up with his idea to resolve the dispute: a land swap.
"If it's that significant surely the council or the Crown could swap some land for the area and turn that into a reserve."
