A petition has been delivered to Parliament, asking New Zealand to stop sending plastic to developing nations for recycling.
More than 11,000 Kiwis have signed the call for action.
Petition leader Lydia Chai says we send 20 million tonnes of our waste overseas each year, to countries like Malaysia.
She says many Kiwis aren't aware 90-percent of kerbside recycling is shipped overseas, to countries like Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia, and huge amounts are dumped or illegally burned, with locals paying the price.
Chai says it's creating huge environmental and health problems for those living in those areas.
Lydia Chai joined Heather du Plessis-Allan.
