Disappointment from some groups over CGT decision

Reactions are flooding in after the government's decided to axe a Capital Gains Tax now and in the future.

While most people are welcoming the decision, there are some who are disappointed.

Louise Delaney from Tax Justice Aotearoa told Larry Williams that while they were not certain about a CGT being introduced, but they believed that the argument from the Tax Working Group was convincing and logical enough. 

"We were pretty optimistic that at least some version of a Capital Gains Tax would be adopted."

She says that her group wanted to see a better balance around wealth inequalities. 

"Our evidence, which can be seen in OECD reports, is that New Zealand is a very unequal countries."

Delaney feels that the short minded point of views of some groups in society has led to this decision.

She says that she she does not view a CGT as simply existing to take money off of other members of society. 

"Tax systems are there for a common good of all of society, and those who are wealthier and have more assets it is in their interests for an economically and social stable country to ensure that everyone benefits."

Delaney says she is doubtful that the Government properly consulted with the wider
