A fresh push to distance New Zealand from the Queen of England.
New Green MP Ricardo Menéndez March has had a vicious online backlash, after expressing reservations about taking the Oath of Allegiance or affirmation to the Queen - when he's sworn in.
The New Zealand Republic campaign says references to the monarch should be removed from the Oath.
Chairman Lewis Holden says bowing to a head of state doesn't make sense in the 21st century.
"What should happen is we should have an oath that reflects the fact that Members of Parliament, for example, are actually elected by the citizens of this country."
New Zealand Republic wants the oath to refer to the people of Aotearoa and Te Tiriti o Waitangi, instead of the monarch.
