Queensland's hopes of hosting the 2032 Olympics are a step closer today.

Successful talks were held today between Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk and the International Olympic Committee in Switzerland about the possibility of bringing the event back to Australia.

The Premier wants to host the event in Brisbane, and has unveiled plans for a new 80,000 seat stadium for the opening and closing ceremonies.

The head of the committee gave glowing praise to the plans, saying it was rare and impressive for plans to be so advanced this far out.

The bid has the support of the federal government, with Scott Morrison saying they are behind the plan.

A decision on officially entering a bid will be made before the end of the year, though the winning bid won't be selected until 2025.

If successful, it would be the first time Australia has hosted the competition since Sydney in 2000.

A number of countries across Africa, Europe and Asia are considering bids as well. The next three Summer Olympic ceremonies are set to be held in Tokyo, Paris and Los Angeles.
