Corrections minister Kelvin Davis joins Heather Du Plessis-Allan to talk about the Government's goal to reduce the Maori population in prisons.

Davis announced the plan today which has a focus on reducing the number of Maori behind bars.

Maori currently make up 52 per cent of prisoners compared to 16 per cent of the general population.

Davis says they want to bring the population down safely by 30 percent by in the next 15 years.

He adds that there needs to be an adjustment in the culture within prions in order to show more respect to inmates.
