Kiwi sheep shearers were among those who entered into Victoria after travelling to one of the quarantine free states as aprt of the New Zealand-Australia travel bubble.
Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews earlier stated Victoria is not part of the bubble and 'something has gone wrong', after 17 Kiwis entered Melbourne via Sydney.Â
New Zealanders who travel to Sydney are allowed to travel to Melbourne; there is no set rule restricting them to stay in New South Wales or the Northern Territory.
Shearing contractors Association of Australia have had a go at the Victorian Premier and says he should applaud Kiwis for travelling thorough to Australia to help fill the shearing shortages.Â
Jason Leitchford from the Shearing Contractors Association of Australia told Heather du Plessis-Allan that the Premier must have a lot on his plate to suggest the illegal entries of Kiwi shearers.
"Wasn't doing the maths... because there was absolutely nothing illegal... by those New Zealand workers.
"The Australian Federal Police and Boarder Force at no point ever intimated that New Zealand citizens would be restricted in staying in Sydney."
He says he is concerned that the comments by Andrews may leave a hint of uncertainty in the minds of Kiwi shearing workers who will be heading over the ditch for work.Â
"If you are out there listening I can absolutely reassure you that there is no problem," Leitchford.
