Wine lovers rejoice – there are claims that the 2020 vintage is the best in a generation.
Ivan Sutherland, the viticulturist at Marlborough's Dog Point vineyard, told Heather du Plessis-Allan that this is right up there with the best.
He says that even after 40 years in the industry, he thinks this vintage is superb.
"We're heading into a vintage with nice vine balance, good leaf-to-fruit ratios, and we had this settled weather, and it was magnificent for all varieties."
The settled weather meant that winemakers weren't rushed, so they were able to pick more easily.Â
Sutherland says that from his understanding it's good across all the regions.
