Inland Revenue has started writing to hundreds of New Zealanders it believes has a net worth of at least $20 million.

In their letter, they’re asking people for details of exactly how wealthy they are and how much tax they're paying.

Herald Wellington Business Editor Hamish Rutherford told Andrew Dickens they’re just warning this request for information is coming.

“What they're doing is they're warning these 400 people we are going to ask for very detailed information about how genuinely wealthy you are.”
