A 14-year-old on trial for murder is accused of stabbing a man to death over "nothing".
Haami Hanara is on trial in the High Court in Napier, accused of murdering Flaxmere man Kelly Donner.
Crown prosecutor Steve Manning has told the jury Hanara, along with four other youths were planning to break into the Flax Tavern to get alcohol.
Donner was in the yard collecting cigarette butts. He had a torch and the teenagers asked if they could borrow it.
When it wasn't returned, Donner got angry and was then attacked by the five - using beer bottles and fence palings.
As he retreated, Hanara allegedly stabbed Donner multiple times.
One witness told the High Court in Napier how they found Donner lying in a pool of blood on the night of his death.
AÂ woman says when she stopped outside the Flaxmere Tavern, she saw four teenage girls, including her daughter, who all seemed "freaked out".
She says she then saw a man lying on his back, in a pool of blood. He couldn't get much out, but the girls told her he'd managed to say 'help me'.
Hanara was the only one charged with murder. The four other teens have appeared in the Hastings Youth Court charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
The trial continues.
