The opposition has attacked British Prime Minister Boris Johnson over he and his Government's handling of the Covid-19 pandemic and the country's response to it.

MPs in the Commons called Johnson's handling muddled, and accused him of 'winging it' around moves to unlock the country.

British correspondent Gavin Grey told Heather du Plessis-Allan it was the strongest attack by the Opposition yet.

"He [Boris Johnson] has been told to get a grip in order to restore public trust.

"A number of things haven't particularly gone the way the Government would like. First of all, we're due to hear pans now for anyone arriving in the UK to have to self isolate for 14 days with a fine of NZ$1800 if they don't. The problem with that now is many of the airlines and businesses say that is impractical, many of the European countries say well if you're doing that we'll do that to you as well."

"It's not terribly popular."

Meanwhile, Britain is set to change its immigration laws to offer people from Hong Kong citizenship if controversial Chinese laws are passed.

Mr Grey says it extends to a lot of people.

"350,000 people currently have BNO passport.

"But 2.6 million others are also eligible."

Mr Grey adds the UK like most other countries are hoping to combat China's controversial law security law.
